Model Registered Agents Act

Information about the Model Registered Agents Act

The Model Registered Agents Act (also known as MoRAA), is an endeavor lead by the American Bar Association Business Law Section and the International Association of Commercial Administrators (IACA) - Business Organization Section (BOS).

The purpose is to standardize laws in relation to business entities. More specifically, regarding annual reporting, registered agents and other laws and forms used to file new business entities.

So by all states adopting a standard set of laws, the Model Registered Agents Act can help to establish uniform procedures for all States. Businesses in all States will have the same modes for filing for new business entities and other related forms and applications including the laws pertaining to registered agents. This uniformity will be very beneficial, especially when companies grow and start doing business in neighboring states.

For now though, the following states are the only ones involved:

• Idaho
• Montana
• North Dakota
• South Dakota
• Utah
• Arkansas
• Maine
• Nevada

To have your state get on board, please contact your local Congressman as well as your local Chamber of Commerce. Your voice will help establish the Model Registered Agents Act in all states.
